You can view and download the FISE curriculum for use in your classroom or education center. You do not need to be a fire expert or science teacher to use the activities; they all have educator information and address multiple subjects.
Fire in Southern Ecosystems (FISE) is a curriculum and training program that gives educators the information and tools to teach about fire in southern pine ecosystems. Supported by the Florida Forest Service and the Georgia Forestry Commission, this program began in 1999 and has reached over 3,200 teachers and more than 90% of Florida counties. Workshops are free to educators of all types – teachers, nature center or park staff, homeschool parents, Scout and 4-H leaders, camp counselors, and others.
Over the last 15 years Florida has experienced some of our most active wildfire seasons on record. When educators gain a better understanding of fire ecology, prescribed fire, and ways to prevent wildfires, they share this information with Florida citizens of all ages. FISE gives educators the background knowledge, skills, and materials they need to teach about fire in Florida.
